Qualcomm is launching its Snapdragon X Elite and Snapdragon X Plus chips, which have shipped to laptop partners and will be available in laptops next week. The chips were first detailed at the Snapdragon Summit 8 months ago and have been touted for their high-performance capabilities.

Samsung has unveiled its latest process technologies roadmap, covering the evolution of its 2nm-class production nodes through 2027. The roadmap includes a process technology with a backside power delivery and plans to bring out a 1.4nm-class node in 2027. The company is also introducing a 'high value' 4nm-class manufacturing tech. The 2nm-class process technologies are set to enter production in 2025 and will span to 2027.

MediaTek is reportedly working on an Arm-based processor for Windows PCs, with plans to launch its first PC processor next year. The processor will rely on Arm's 'ready-made designs' and Arm's compute sub-system (CSS) for client PCs. The exact version of Arm's IP used by MediaTek remains unclear.

The USB Implementers Forum introduced USB4 version 2.0 in fall 2022, and expects systems and devices with the tech to emerge later this year and into next year. ASMedia is working on its own USB4 v2 controller and physical interface (PHY), which will support USB4 v2's new Gen 4 (160Gbps) data rates. Intel's Barlow Ridge controller is a full-featured Thunderbolt 5 controller that goes above and beyond the baseline USB4 v2 spec.

Qualcomm has won 23 laptop designs with its Snapdragon X Elite SoCs, and all leading PC vendors have introduced systems based on Qualcomm's Snapdragon X Elite processors. However, not all of these laptops will come with modems, as not every vendor wants to buy and dedicate space to them. Qualcomm's 5G modems are a strength, but the company is not integrating them into its first-generation Oryon-based Snapdragon X chips.

Corsair demonstrated its new PC case, the 9000D Airflow, at Computex. The case is 90 liters in volume, housing two systems: a full-size ATX system and a separate Mini-ITX system. It features 22 fans and two liquid cooling systems.

Phison is introducing a new controller, PS5031-E31T, which will be used in PCIe 5.0 SSDs. The controller uses two Arm Cortex-R5 cores and is DRAM-less. It has four NAND channels and is expected to be used in upcoming SSDs. The new controller was demoed at Computex.

Micron has started sampling its next-gen GDDR7 memory, which is expected to be available in products later this year. The chip has a 16 Gb memory device with a 32 GT/sec transfer rate, making it faster than GDDR6/GDDR6X. Micron aims to capture 25% of the premium High Bandwidth Memory market.
