PCI-SIG is working on the PCIe 6.0 specifications, with the goal of delivering a 64 GT/s data rate with up to 256 GBps of bidirectional traffic using x16 links. The organization has already made the PCIe 7.0 specifications (v 0.5) available to its members, with full specifications expected to be released in 2025. Phison showcased their enterprise and datacenter SSD solutions, including their Gen 5 X2 platform, at FMS 2024. They had a significant booth space dedicated to these products, which were demonstrated alongside their consumer products. Samsung has launched its BM1743 enterprise QLC SSD with a 128 TB-class version, featuring a 4.1x improvement in I/O performance, improved data retention, and 45% improvement in power efficiency for sequential writes. The SSD boasts sequential read speeds of 7.5 GBps and write speeds of 3 GBps, with random reads at 1.6 M IOPS and 16 KB random writes at 45K IOPS.

Kioxia demonstrated an optical interface for its enterprise SSDs, developed with funding from the Japanese government's New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO). The optical interface allows data transfer over long distances, up to 100m in the future, and was showcased at the FMS. Kioxia used its existing CM7 enterprise SSD and a PCIe card with on-board optics developed by Kyocera.

At FMS 2024, Silicon Motion demonstrated Flexible Data Placement (FDP), a feature introduced in the NVM Express standard.
